Reflecting on Women’s History Month in California

As Women’s History Month concludes, we take a moment to honor the women who came before us — who pushed against the boundaries of their time.

One of the most powerful examples comes from 1918, when California voters elected the first women to the state legislature — just seven years after women in the state won the right to vote. Their presence reshaped the political landscape – challenged stereotypes and opened the door for generations of leaders who followed. Over a century later, California has over 60 women elected to the State Legislature and across statewide offices.

We honor not just the women whose names fill history books, but the quieter, steadier lineage of women who have shaped our lives.  The ones who taught us how to speak with purpose, and how to keep moving even when the path ahead felt uncertain.

Honoring women’s history isn’t just about looking back. It’s about recognizing the ways we’re still carrying that torch forward — in our homes, in our workplaces, in our communities.  As a female owned firm, we are reminded that the path these early trailblazers carved is still expanding. It means being part of an environment shaped by women’s leadership, vision, and resilience — a modern reflection of the same determination that propelled California’s first female elected officials into office more than a century ago. Their courage opened doors; today, women‑owned businesses keep those doors open and build new ones.

As we look forward toward the legislative schedule – legislators are entering their busiest month yet, with policy and budget committee hearings filling their calendars, to meet the upcoming House of Origin deadline as well as the budget deadline in June. PS is looking forward to a productive 2026 session as Legislators return to Sacramento post Spring Recess.
